Since Karuna began, volunteers have played a significant role in our organisation's success.
Volunteers are important members of the Karuna team and historically have given their time generously, year in year out, contributing to Karuna’s work in the office, at events and in the community.
During COVID, we have been creative in how we engage our volunteers and have recently introduced some remote volunteering opportunities and projects in conjunction with our traditional roles outlined below.
When registering your interest in volunteering with Karuna, please tell us as much about yourself as possible ie. your skills and the ways you would like to volunteer with us. This will help us to determine which roles to alert you to as opportunities arise.
Volunteering at Karuna House
We have a small team of volunteers that help out in the office on a regular basis with all manners of tasks including general administration, storeroom maintenance, fundraising activities, errands, workshop/meeting preparation and light cleaning tasks.
Volunteers help maintain the beautiful gardens and facilities here at Karuna – undertaking general maintenance tasks, weeding, lawn care and the occasional working bee.
Project Volunteers may help with research, ZOOM workshops, funding applications or various one-off projects. Many of these projects can be done external to the office and out of office hours.
Craft Group Volunteers
For many years our dedicated craft groups have been supporting Karuna’s fundraising activities. They work all year round making craft to be sold at our Christmas markets, Bridge Days and more recently on our online store. Please contact Coralie at firstname.lastname@example.org should you wish to donate any craft items. We would be very pleased to hear from you.
Our team of event volunteers may provide pre-event logistical support and/or be on hand at our fundraising events at Karuna. Some may also represent Karuna at community events including festivals, expos and community forums. They pass on information about the services we provide and often lend a caring ear to those who wish to share their experiences.
Palliative Care Support Volunteers
Our trained and dedicated Palliative Care Support Volunteers visit families at home, to provide companionship, practical assistance and respite to carers.
This group of volunteers, along with our Biography volunteers, were recognised in 2020 by Queensland’s state body for volunteering, Volunteering Queensland, for the impact they have made to the community since 1992. What amazing recognition to receive for many years of care and compassion given (see picture below). Congratulations to all!
**Our palliative care volunteer program is currently under review. If you are interested in volunteering, please check back here towards the end 2021 for an update on training dates.
