Volunteering at Karuna

Since Karuna began, volunteers have played a significant role in our organisation's success.

Historically our volunteers give between 8,000 and 10,000 hours of their time to Karuna each year.  This incredible generosity of time directly contributes to Karuna’s work both in the office and in the community. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Karuna and are an essential and precious part of everything we do! They support us in many different ways.

 

Palliative Care Support Volunteers

Our trained and dedicated Palliative Care Support Volunteers work closely alongside our nurses visiting families at home, to provide companionship, practical assistance and respite to carers.

Volunteers may assist with small household tasks like shopping, running errands, walking dogs, washing the dishes or helping with the kids. They may take the client on an outing or just sit by the bed and spend precious time with them while the carer has a break.

**Our Palliative Care volunteers undertake an extensive application and training process before visiting families. Please register your interest, online via the link below, to be advised when our training is confirmed.

 

Office and Project Volunteers
We have a team of volunteers that help out in the office on a regular basis with all manners of tasks including general administration, reception, finance, marketing, fundraising, event planning, clinical audits, running errands, setting up for workshops and meetings, light housekeeping, maintenance, and other one off projects.

 

Gardening Volunteers

Volunteers help maintain the beautiful gardens here at Karuna – weeding, lawn care and the occasional working bee for mulching and other tasks.

 

Craft Group Volunteers

For many years our dedicated craft group has been supporting Karuna’s fundraising events. The group works all year round making craft to be sold at our Christmas markets and Bridge Days.  Funds raised from craft sales are used to provide ongoing care to our clients and their families. Due to Covid-19 we have had to cancel our fundraising events for 2020. This includes our much loved Christmas Market.  We are still collecting craft items to sell on our new online shop as an alternative this year.  Please contact verena@karuna.org.au or call on 3632 8300 to arrange drop off or collection. Events Volunteers
Our team of event volunteers may provide pre-event logistical support and/or be on hand at our fundraising events at Karuna. Some may also represent Karuna at community events including festivals, expos and community forums. They pass on information about the services we provide and often lend a caring ear to those who wish to share their experiences.

With limited staffing resources this additional volunteer support is vital for the continuation of the services we provide.
