Spiritual Patron: His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
A key aspect of Karuna’s identity is its foundation in Tibetan Buddhist roots. Buddhism provides an understanding of life and death, living and dying, that is trusted and respected by many people – irrespective of religious affiliation or personal spiritual beliefs.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama is Karuna’s spiritual patron and continues to build this trust and respect around the world. In June 2007, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama visited Karuna and became our Spiritual Patron. During his visit, he spoke to those who were ill, their loved ones and friends and conveyed his messages about death and dying, He advised to accept death sooner rather than later and that it was better to live life with no regrets and to serve others, so it was easier to look back in peace.
“Real care of the sick does not begin with costly procedures but with the simple gift of affection and love. It is the source of happiness for both oneself and others. People respond to kindness even whey medicine is ineffective, and in turn cultivating a kind heart is a cause of our own health.”
“While we are alive our time and energy must be used in a meaningful way. Then at the end you feel no regret”.
