KARUNA WELCOMES NEW PATRON

Karuna is honoured to announce the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland as our new Patron.

Her Excellency has a long and impressive history in the health care sector, including the title of Chief Health Officer for Queensland. The Governor’s dedication to and compassion for Queenslanders and their health and wellbeing aligns with Karuna’s core values and purpose of providing personalised care to our clients.

Karuna’s CEO Tracey Porst welcomes our third vice-regal Patronage and appreciates the leadership Her Excellency has shown throughout her distinguished career in healthcare.

The Patronage will be in place for the duration of Her Excellency’s term in office and Karuna looks forward to this opportunity to highlight the importance of personalised palliative care in the home.

Our Spiritual Patron

A key aspect of Karuna’s identity is its foundation in Tibetan Buddhist roots. Buddhism provides an understanding of life and death, living and dying, that is trusted and respected by many people – irrespective of religious affiliation or personal spiritual beliefs. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is Karuna’s spiritual patron and continues to build this trust and respect around the world. In June 2007, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama visited Karuna and became our Spiritual Patron. During his visit, he spoke to those who were ill, their loved ones and friends and conveyed his messages about death and dying, He advised to accept death sooner rather than later and that it was better to live life with no regrets and to serve others, so it was easier to look back in peace.
