Today is World Social Work Day.
The theme of the event – ‘Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change’ – serves as a timely reminder of the transformative role social workers play in driving positive change and fostering communities that thrive on mutual respect and sustainability.
We’re fortunate to have two amazing staff members at Karuna – Theresa and Michelle – who use their expertise in social work, to help support the hundreds of patients and families to live well and die peacefully, when facing end of life. Their expertise ranges from social support, service navigation, decision making, as well as grief and bereavement counselling.
Michelle our Family Support Team Leader said: “Every person and family we have the privilege to meet, has their own unique needs and circumstances, support networks, cultural and spiritual experiences in relation to what quality of life looks like for them right now. As Social Workers at Karuna, we take time to understand what is most important to our families at this time in their lives and support them where they are during their journey.”
