What People Wish They Had Known Earlier (online session)

NAVIGATING THE PALLIATIVE CARE JOURNEY (ONLINE SESSION)

Overview
Starting a palliative care journey – whether as a patient, a family member, or a carer – often brings uncertainty, questions, and emotional overwhelm. Many people later reflect that there were things they wish they had known earlier: about supports, conversations, decisions, and how to care for themselves along the way. This 45 minute online panel brings together two experienced professionals to share practical insights, compassion, and real-world perspectives on what people commonly would like to know at the beginning of the palliative care journey.

Presenters
Liz Fletcher, Karuna Carer Wellbeing Partner
Linda Starke, Karuna Social Worker

What to expect
Together, Liz and Linda will explore the most common questions people ask when entering the palliative care space, including:
• What palliative care really is – and what it isn’t
• How to navigate emotional, practical, and family challenges early on
• What supports are available for patients, families, and carers
• How carers can protect their own wellbeing while supporting a loved one
• Conversations people often wish they’d had sooner

This session is suitable for
• People living with a life-limiting illness
• Family members and loved ones offering support
• Informal and formal carers
• Anyone wanting greater clarity and reassurance about palliative care

Whether you are at the very start of the journey or supporting someone you care about, this conversation offers insight, validation, and guidance.
