Palliative Care referrals for carers & family members
If you are caring for someone living with a life-limiting illness, Karuna Hospice Services can support you at any stage of the caring journey.
Being a carer can be emotionally and physically demanding. Karuna provides compassionate, person and family-centred support that looks beyond clinical needs to include emotional, spiritual and practical care—helping you feel informed, supported and confident in your role as a carer.
Who can refer
This form can be completed by:
- Carers, family members or friends providing support to someone with a life-limiting illness.
- A substitute decision maker acting on behalf of the person receiving care.
Health professionals should use this Patient Referral Form.
Eligibility and costs
Whether you’re a family member, friend, or neighbour providing care, you are not alone—and you are eligible for support including:
- Carers of all ages, unpaid or not.
- The care recipient does not need to live with the carer (co-residency is not a requirement).
- There is no means test or income test for a carer to access services.
- There is no upper or lower age limit for carers to access services.
People referred to Karuna who live within the catchment area (Brisbane central/north, Redcliffe, Caboolture and Bribie Island) receive care at no cost.
If the person resides outside this catchment area, services may still be available, however a fee may apply.
