Karuna’s new brand

Aug 19, 2025

Karuna is proud to reveal our new brand, aligning our evolution and growth, as we continue to extend our services to benefit more communities.

It’s a visual expression of our commitment to compassion, clarity, and connection, designed to spark open conversations about dying and grief, while remaining caring and authentic.

Deeply inspired by Karuna’s Buddhist principles, our new visual identity reflects our existing offerings and our expansion into more services, education, and engagement programs. The logo is made up of three key elements:

  • Sundown: The sun on the horizon signifies a sunset marking a peaceful end, and a sunrise represents a new beginning. In Buddhism, the end of one life journey is simply the beginning of another.
  • Circle of life: The circular form of the logo reflects the cyclical nature of life, while its irregular shape reminds us that life’s imperfections are part of its beauty.
  • Yin and Yang: The Yin and Yang elements of this symbol represent the interconnectedness of the opposing force. Death is a natural balance to life, and loss and renewal are inseparable parts of existence.

This is more than a new look. It’s a reflection of our foundations, who we are becoming, and the values that guide us: humility, kindness, respect, and courage.

For over 33 years, Karuna has been a familiar and essential part of the community. Through our Buddhist-led and people-centric service, we have strived to alleviate suffering by providing choice, agency, and quality of life, to individuals and families receiving Karuna’s palliative and end-of-life care.

Alongside our existing services, we are expanding our expertise to ensure people have an equally healthy relationship with living and dying. We want everyone to understand that life is better when you make peace with death.

With decades of experience, Karuna draws on our Buddhist foundations to continue providing:

  • Compassionate clinical, grief/bereavement and spiritual care by our expert team
  • Personalised services for individuals, carers and family members
  • Education programs and resources to empower people to live fully and meaningfully by embracing the natural cycle of life and death
  • Assistance to vulnerable communities and walking alongside with grace and empathy.

As a community, we are all shaping a future where death is no longer hidden in shadows, but approached with understanding, grace, and tenderness.
