Karuna CEO update

Oct 9, 2024

After six years as CEO and nine years as a Director on the Board, Mrs Tracey Porst has made the decision to step down from her roles at Karuna.

Under Tracey’s valued leadership, Karuna has grown, evolved and broadened our service offerings to the community. She led the organisation through the unprecedented impacts of the global pandemic of COVID-19, maintaining care to our patients and their carers. Tracey also led the financial management of the organisation to the healthy position it is in today, along with successfully obtaining national accreditation for healthcare services in 2022.

More recently, along with the Board, she led the development of our new Strategic Plan for 2024 – 2027. In addition, Tracey has been a strong advocate, collaborator and supporter of the Palliative Care Service networks during her leadership.

Throughout her time, Tracey has been a clear champion of our Purpose, Vision and Values, aligned to the fundamental Buddhist principles of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition.

Board Chair of Karuna, John Gilmour thanked Tracey for her leadership and service to Karuna.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank Tracey for her dedication and commitment to Karuna over the years,” said Dr Gilmour.

“She has always had an unwavering commitment to delivering high quality services to those we serve whilst seeking opportunities for innovation and business sustainability and these are a testament to her dedication and leadership. Her legacy will continue to benefit many patients and families requiring Karuna’s services.”

Outgoing Karuna CEO Tracey Porst said was proud to be able to lead Karuna into its current success as a specialised Palliative Care service.

“I have always stated it has been a privilege to lead Karuna and I remain grateful for the opportunities the role has presented me with. I am incredibly proud of what we have been able to accomplish together, and I am grateful for the support and collaboration during my tenure,” said Mrs Porst.

“Over the years, our team has achieved significant milestones that have contributed to the care of those who seek our service, and the sustainable future of Karuna. I believe it is time for new leadership to guide our organisation into its next chapter and I wish everyone at Karuna all the very best as they continue to progress forward and deliver these important services to the community.”

Going forward, the Board has engaged an agency to support the recruitment process to appoint and announce a new CEO by December 2024. Ms. Sophie Shrapnel will be Acting CEO throughout this process.
