Gail was diagnosed with emphysema approximately twenty years ago. Although it was a slowly deteriorating disease, over time, the support of Karuna Hospice Services was required to help Gail and her family through her palliative and end of life care.
Gail’s condition eventually deteriorated, and she began feeling the effects of the illness on her everyday quality of life. At a regular specialist appointment, palliative care was discussed.
The diagnosis was a shock to the family, however they all agreed they wanted Karuna to support them through Gail’s palliative and end of life care.
Karuna’s home visits were initially every six weeks, then every four weeks and then fortnightly. Karuna increased their support for Gail and her family in the month before she passed away as her condition changed rapidly, and extra care was required on a daily basis.
In October 2023, at the age of 75, Gail passed away at home, surrounded by her loved ones, including her 10 year old dog Rosie.
